Spirituality

Spirituality is a belief in something greater than ourselves. We don’t need an organized religion, only a divine connection that surrounds us and is our strength, a strength not just in times of stress but in our everyday lives.

Whether expressed through prayer, meditation, ritual, service, or contemplation, spirituality points to an awareness that life is more than just material existence.

We are never alone. We have multidimensional support, a team of guides working with and around us. We might call them angels, guardian angels, ascended masters, deceased ancestors, extraterrestrials, or cosmic beings, but they are here to help. Be open to any and all of those energies.

A divine awareness recognizes an inner dimension of the human experience, often called the soul or spirit. At its core, spirituality also reflects a common moral and emotional longing: to love and be loved, to reduce suffering, and to live in harmony with others in the world. This includes all religions, all religious views, and all spiritual beliefs.

Most religions and spiritual paths teach:

  • compassion,
  • unity,
  • truthfulness,
  • fairness,
  • tolerance,
  • responsibility,
  • respect for all life, and
  • service to all life.

With these basic concepts as universal, how unfortunate there is so much religious strife in the world. If we could only learn to act on our common beliefs, as opposed to dissecting and defending them.

The significance to spirituality is a belief in something greater than ourselves, a belief in a bigger picture. What we call  this “greater than”  is insignificant. What is important is that we each identify our beliefs, accept them, and use them as our standard for living. The  differences in what these represent can remain unique to any group or individual. The similarities are the bonds that allow us to tolerate and interact with one another.

There are many definitions of God, Allah, Great Spirit, or whatever term we choose. Many of us grew up with a belief in a Theist God, one who ruled and judged our lives. Today some of those limiting views have evolved to a more encompassing force in the Universe. Know that force, or that feeling you get when you rise above the daily demands and feel at peace within. Trust that knowing. Don’t get lost in the search.

A  definition is not necessary, a connection is.

A definition is intellectual, a connection is emotional.

Experience that connection.

  • Feel it standing at the ocean’s edge with your feet in the sand as if your soul were being cleansed.
  • Feel it driving through the mountains, highlighting a feeling of insignificance and humility.
  • Feel it working in your garden as your hands touch the earth, revealing a connection beyond your comprehension.

Whatever your experience, whatever your spiritual awareness,

feel the love and warmth. Incorporate that into your daily world.

Our spirituality gives us a reason to care, a reason to go on, a reason to help others. Sometimes that simplicity eludes us as we struggle to move through our complex days.

Everyone has a particular vocation, such as a counselor, healer, teacher, service worker, community leader, parent, or something else. There is no one purpose, nor any defined parameters. As long as we are doing what our hearts know is right, we are doing exactly what we are supposed to be doing, even if the outward trappings look different than originally planned. The role we play is less important than having a spiritual belief.

Our tasks are very significant on a very small scale.

We are all helping earth evolve.

We do that by defining our spirituality and following those beliefs daily.
